Are you Happy With Your Marketing?

It’s a question that many of us have asked, and for good reason.

Typically, as a business grows, we “add” marketing avenues as and when we think we need them.

  • This can be social media because we are told we need it.

  • Google Ads because “that’s” the way to get new clients.

  • And we get someone “who” is good with IT to do our website.

This process will hold you back no matter how good you are at your core business. The outward impression we give counts, especially when marketing

What bad marketing equates to

  • Failed marketing strategy

  • No Ideal client targeting

  • No content strategy

  • Inconsistent client experiences

  • Prospects lack trust

  • Slow sales months

All this can happen despite having a great product or service.

Obstacles

You are not the only one; most businesses have found themselves in this position. It is easy to react to a change in circumstances and pick an option that seems good at the time.

Other considerations I have seen.

  • Friends - Many of us have employed friends or friends to complete tasks for us. Social media is a big one here, and it does not always perform as we would hope.

  • Paying attention - Have you ever employed someone who thought that solved the issue but never looked back to see if it did?

  • Being a number - Many companies, especially SaaS services, treat you as just one more subscription or client rather than someone they really invest in.

  • Additional costs - I see it all too often: companies spend a small fortune on software that is never used.

  • Skills - Many directors and owners know they need a service but do not have the budget to implement the strategy.

  • Happiness - In a few cases I have seen, directors are unhappy with the results they are getting, yet they just ask the same people to do more of the same to fix things.

What is a good solution?

Thankfully, you do have a few options, and once you get your ducks in a row, a few things will happen.

  • Your costs will decrease

  • Your brand will increase in value

  • You will gain a stronger brand image

  • You will gain a consistent flow of leads

  • As prospects search for your services, they will come to you organically

And it will be one less business headache. I am just sorry this does not work for HMRC.

Questions to ask yourself

  1. Identify exactly who your client is. Who do you want to work with?

  2. Then, where do these prospects hang out?

  3. Then what are your issues? Failing services, untrained staff, budgets, etc.

Once you know who you want as clients, where you can find them and what you need to attract them, you have the start of a plan.

Step 1. Ensure your brand image is clear everywhere: on your website, landing pages, social media, and all your touchpoints.

Step 2. Create a social campaign that provides appropriate content, not fluff.

Step 3. Create coordinated campaigns across all your marketing touch points.

Step 4. Only target the clients you would love to have.

The Results

You may get inquiries on day 1, but experience shows that good marketing is like a snowball: it grows with time.

Your marketing choices and effort will make all the difference in your success.

Remember, if you place Google ads, they will fall flat if the prospect does not see what they are looking for. Every area of marketing counts to bolster the other. That’s why one solution does not work.

Tough Choices

  • If you have a great in-house team, but one area is missing, say your graphic design is failing, get a designer or company to fix it. Don’t always use your ill-equipped team.

  • If you have “friends” doing services as a favour, get a professional service; remember this is your business, not a friend's club!.

  • This is a hard one. If your team is struggling, becoming costly or is not skilled, replace them. I said it was a hard one, but business can be challenging.

  • If you need a suite of services but your budget does not stretch to a larger team, companies such as Propria offer these services as a package.
